Brandenburg’s Push for Climate-Neutral Production: Minister of Economics Pushes for 1000 Kilometer Hydrogen Transport Network

Brandenburg’s Minister of Economics, Jörg Steinbach, is pushing for the quick construction of a 1000 kilometer long hydrogen transport network in order to make the state a leader in climate-neutral production. The network would start in 2030 with 687 kilometers and expand to 1102 kilometers by 2045. It would cost 1.2 billion euros and be used to supply large steel, glass, cement and chemical industry sites with hydrogen as well as heating power plants with the climate-friendly energy source. The project will need to be completed by 2028 according to EU regulations and will be funded by both imports from Rostock and Lubmin ports as well as hydrogen electrolysis produced from wind and solar parks located in the Lausitz region and Northern Brandenburg.

The Benefits of Hydrogen

Hydrogen is a versatile and abundant element that has the potential to be an important part of our energy future. It can be used in fuel cells to generate electricity, and it can also be used as a clean burning fuel for cars, trucks, buses, and boats. Hydrogen is also a key component in the production of ammonia, which is essential for making fertilizer. Additionally, hydrogen can be used to store energy from renewable sources like solar and wind power. The benefits of using hydrogen are numerous: it’s clean burning, efficient, abundant, and cost-effective.
