Toyota Revives the Classic AE86 with Electric and Hydrogen Power at Tokyo Auto Salon Show

Toyota is showcasing two concepts of their classic AE86 model at the Tokyo Auto Salon show. One concept runs on battery power and the other runs on hydrogen fuel. The battery powered version has a manual transmission and parts from hybrid Tundra and Prius models, but only produces 48 horsepower. The hydrogen powered version has some parts from Toyota’s Mirai model and preserves the original AE86 driving experience. Both versions have paint jobs inspired by Initial D, an anime that famously featured an AE86. Toyota hinted that they are considering making it easier for people to convert their own beloved AE86s into electric or hydrogen powered versions.

Electric vs Hydrogen

Electric and hydrogen power are both viable options for powering vehicles. Electric cars typically have a lower upfront cost than hydrogen cars, but they require more frequent charging. Hydrogen cars, on the other hand, have a higher initial cost but can travel further on a single tank of fuel. Both types of cars produce zero emissions, making them environmentally friendly choices for transportation. Ultimately, the decision between electric and hydrogen power comes down to personal preference and budget.
