Enertrag and Elogen Team Up to Create 10MW Green Hydrogen Project in Germany

Renewable energy developer Enertrag has picked Elogen, a French firm, to provide them with a 10MW PEM electrolyser for their green hydrogen project in Magdeburg, Germany. This system will be able to generate up to four tons of hydrogen every day and is expected to be ready by 2024. It will use renewable energy for power during electrolysis which will help control wind and solar fluxes. The green hydrogen produced is destined for use in decarbonizing heavy industy and long-distance trucking and eventually the ONTRAS gas transmission pipelines.Jean-Baptiste Choimet from Elogen expressed his enthusiasm saying that they are proud the superior performance of their electrolysis technology was recognized by Enertrag. He also commented on how this contract marks an important step forward since it involves an electrolyser with such high capacity. Manuela Blaicher from Enertrag added that they are excited to begin producing hydrogen on an industrial scale with this reference plant given its potential uses across industries and mobility sectors.

Summary

  • Enertrag has selected France-based Elogen to supply a 10MW proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyser.
  • The electrolyser will enable the power system to compensate for wind and solar fluctuations, while the green hydrogen produced will contribute to decarbonising heavy industry and long-distance trucking.
  • This is an important step for Elogen since this contract concerns an electrolyser with a capacity of 10MW, confirming the scaling-up of their technology for larger projects.
