Hamburg Leads the Way: Banning Combustion Engine Taxis by 2025 to Reduce CO2 Emissions

Hamburg is set to become the first state in Germany to ban combustion engine taxis by 2025. This move is expected to save 25,000 tons of CO2 annually and has received positive feedback from both taxi companies and passengers. Currently, 12% of Hamburg’s taxis are electric or hydrogen-powered. The project ‘Zukunftstaxi’ was launched in 2021 with the aim of encouraging the switch to locally emissions-free taxis.
