Germany and Africa Working Together to Achieve Climate Neutrality by 2045

At the „Compact-with-Africa“ conference in Berlin, Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that Germany will provide 4 billion euros until 2030 for renewable energy initiatives and to promote economic diversification in Africa. He also stated that Germany will need large amounts of green hydrogen from Africa to reach climate neutrality by 2045. This cooperation is not based on the traditional donor-recipient model but rather on investments that benefit both sides.

Green Hydrogen and Renewable Energy

Green hydrogen is a clean energy source that is produced through the electrolysis of water using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind or hydro power. When renewable energy is used to produce hydrogen, it emits no greenhouse gases and can be stored for later use. As a result, green hydrogen has been identified as a potential solution to reduce carbon emissions in the transportation sector and other industries. It also offers an efficient way to store excess renewable energy for times when demand is low.
